The "Heron" Vertical Steam Plant
The Heron Vertical Steam Plant is a beautiful example of an
original 1890’s era Open Steam Launch power plant. They were commonly found in varying
styles of Open Steam Launches during the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The model is comprised of two main parts; our fully functional “Belmont
Vertical Steam Boiler” and our “Heron Twin Cylinder” marine steam engine.
The Heron Vertical Steam Plants are completely manufactured and tested
in-house. The steam plants are sent out from our factory as a complete ready to
run models, only requiring the addition of a reserve water tank for refilling
the boiler during use and a standard commercially available butane/propane canister (which can be obtained from most sporting goods retailers. These are a standard
internationally available camping butane/propane cylinder). Since we cannot anticipate each modeler’s unique
installation requirements for their model boat projects, the construction and
fitting of reserve water tanks is best left up to each modeler or collector.
The Heron Vertical Steam Plant consists of our proven Belmont Vertical
Steam Boiler, Heron Twin Cylinder Steam Engine(fitted with water pump
kit), oil/water separator tank, and all necessary fittings, all mounted
on a
stainless steel base. Each complete ready to run steam plant features
all
copper plumbing installed and factory welded. An optional stained
wooden base
can be added from our accessories page for collectors who wish to
display their
steam plant.
Modeler’s can further customize their steam plants by adding
any of our optional accessories such as steam whistles, gas attenuators, water
tanks or our electronic boiler/burner managements systems which will be
available shortly. More about these options can be found on our fitting and accessories pages.

both the Heron Twin and the Belmont Vertical Steam Boiler.
