The "Sparrow" Vertical Steam Plant

The Sparrow Vertical Steam Plant is a compact, high performance steam plant that will operate smoothly on steam pressures of between 30psi and 100psi (3 & 6bar). Because of its compact size and power output, it is an ideal unit for a wide variety of boats such as Open Steam Launches. These units will drive up to a 4" (100mm) propeller. The model is comprised of two main parts; our fully functional “Cambria Vertical Steam Boiler” and our powerful “Sparrow Twin Cylinder” marine steam engine.

The Sparrow Vertical Steam Plants are completely manufactured and tested in-house. The steam plants are sent out from our factory as complete ready to run models. The boiler is heated with a ceramic type burner and a gas control valve is included for use with standard commercially available butane/propane canister (which can be obtained from most sporting goods retailers.

The Sparrow Vertical Steam Plant consists of our Cambria Vertical Steam Boiler, Sparrow Twin Cylinder Steam Engine, oil/water separator tank, and all necessary fittings, all mounted on a stainless steel base. Each complete ready to run steam plant features all copper plumbing installed and factory welded. 

  Modeler’s can further customize their steam plants by adding any of our optional accessories such as steam whistles, gas attenuators, water pumps, water tanks or our electronic boiler/burner managements systems which will be available shortly.
